For the past few hours, the ubuntu.com website has been returning a 503 error (service unavailable), and updates for Ubuntu systems are blocked.

Cyberattack claimed by the "313 Team" group

After some research, it turns out that Canonical has fallen victim to a cyberattack. The group "Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq – 313 Team" is reportedly behind it. They have sent a message and wish to speak directly with Canonical's CEO.

Major impact, especially for businesses

This outage goes far beyond just an inaccessible website. As of now, machines running Ubuntu can no longer receive updates. This comes at a particularly bad time, as a patch was expected to fix a critical vulnerability: Copy Fail.

This vulnerability allows any user to gain root access via a simple Python script. Without updates, systems remain exposed.
