Your journey towards numeric sovereignty starts here !

Welcome to numeric-sovereignty.org ! This is the very first article published on this website.
As you might expect, this site is intended to discuss numeric sovereignty, but that’s not all. In fact, we’ll also be discussing topics related to IT in general, and I’ll be able to touch on current subjects that are close to my heart.
Without going into too much detail, I should mention that I have been working in IT for over 10 years and am currently employed as a systems administrator at one of Switzerland’s largest universities.
Regarding numeric sovereignty, this has, over time, become a major issue for Europe. For far too long, EU countries have largely embraced the cloud through a wide variety of tools: Dropbox, Google Drive, Amazon AWS, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, iCloud, and so on...
These tools have it all, as they lighten the workload for businesses and individuals alike. It’s fair to say that the Cloud is easy to get into, but hard to get out of!
All things considered, what is the key takeaway from all this? It is that online storage, is simply someone else’s computer, and that, under the law, we lose our rights to the data stored there.
Donald Trump’s presidency has brought these issues into sharp focus. From tariffs to the blocking of email accounts belonging to those who refused to toe his line (French judge Nicolas Guillou, for example, found this out the hard way), these events have served as a stark reminder of our dependence on other countries.
Although it’s a bit late in the day, Europe is waking up. In fact, more and more local authorities and businesses are considering moving away from Microsoft 365, or even switching to Linux. Some have already made the switch successfully, whilst others have reversed their decision for various reasons.
Finally, I invite you to drop by regularly to discover the upcoming articles and thoughts I have in store for you.
